The North Eastern Division Hut

The North Eastern Division Hut – now called - ARIMA GUIDE HUT, was started in 1963 with a concrete floor, galvanize iron roof and a steel frame but remained unused by Guides till 1969 when a Gala Christmas party for all Guides, Leaders, Commissioners and LA Members was held.

Lady Baden-Powell unveiled the Plaque at a function on Wednesday 1st April 1964 at 9.30 a.m. at the site of the proposed North Eastern Division Hut.

A guard of honor was formed by Guides and Guiders of the Division and Division Commissioner Olga Lynch introduced Lady Baden-Powell, Her Excellency Lady Hochoy and their companions as well as:

  • His Worship the Mayor Councillor Percy Cezair

  • Mr. C. A Thomasos, Speaker of the House

  • Mr. & Mrs. Ronald Bynoe

  • Other Guide Dignitaries

  • Mrs. C. Imbert, Chairman, North East Division Local Association

A fan fare of trumpets from the Tacarigua Children’s Home provided the music.

The Hut was plagued with a number of “undesirables” breaking in. The Local Association began in 1972 but was not registered until 1974 when a renewed effort was made to complete the hut which was now too small – a House Stage, dressing room, two toilets and storeroom were added at a cost of Four Thousand Dollars ($4,000.00).
